Drying time
We do not over-saturate, so most carpet is dry within 12 hours. Airflow is what decides how fast, and the climate here works in your favor most of the year.

Run the air conditioning and ceiling fans. That is most of it.
What actually determines it
Airflow, by a distance
Moving air carries moisture away from the fiber. Still air lets it sit. This is the single biggest factor and it is the one you control completely.
Humidity
Chandler is genuinely helpful here for most of the year. Dry air pulls moisture out of carpet quickly, which is why carpet dries faster here than almost anywhere. Monsoon season is the exception, and during it the air conditioning does more good than an open window.
How much water went in
Which is a function of method rather than luck. Orbital agitation means less water achieves the same clean, because the solution is worked into the pile mechanically instead of relying on volume. Less water in means less to get out.
Carpet thickness and pad
A thick plush over a heavy pad holds more than a low-pile commercial carpet. Nothing to be done about it, but it explains why two rooms in the same house can differ.

What to do after we leave
- Run the air conditioning. It both moves air and removes moisture from it, which is exactly what you want
- Run ceiling fans in the cleaned rooms
- Open interior doors so air moves between rooms rather than sitting still in one
- Open windows in winter and spring, when outside air is drier than inside air. Not during monsoon
- Keep pets and children off until it is fully dry, since damp carpet picks up soil instantly
- Leave furniture protection in place until dry, particularly under wood or metal feet
Walking on it before it is dry
Fine with clean dry feet or shoe covers. The thing to avoid is walking in from outside onto damp carpet, because damp fiber grabs soil far more readily than dry fiber and you will put a lane straight back into freshly cleaned carpet.
If you need to cross a room, go barefoot or in clean socks and take the shortest route.

Furniture legs are the real risk
The one thing that causes lasting damage during drying, and it is easy to avoid.
Wood furniture legs can bleed stain into damp carpet. Metal feet can leave rust. Both happen because the carpet is wet and the contact point stays wet longest.
So protection stays under furniture legs until the carpet is genuinely dry, not until it feels dry on the surface. If you are moving something back yourself, put a square of foil or a plastic tab under each foot.
If it is still damp the next day
Unusual in Chandler and worth investigating rather than ignoring.
Usually it means no airflow, a closed-up room with the system off. Occasionally it means a thick pad holding more than expected. Very rarely it means something else is contributing moisture.
Get air moving and check again a few hours later. If it is still damp after that, ring us, because carpet that stays wet for an extended period can develop odor in the pad and that is worth catching early.
Why faster is genuinely better
Not just convenience.
Damp carpet re-soils immediately, so a slow dry undoes part of what you paid for. And carpet that stays wet too long is where odor problems start, in the pad rather than the fiber.
That is most of the argument for orbital agitation over extraction alone. Less water in, less time wet, better result that lasts longer.
Questions
How long does carpet take to dry?
We do not over-saturate, so most carpet is dry within 12 hours. How long it actually takes depends on airflow, humidity, pile thickness and how soiled the carpet was.
What speeds it up?
Airflow, more than anything else. Run the air conditioning, run ceiling fans, and open interior doors so air moves between rooms.
Should I open the windows?
In winter and spring, yes. During monsoon season the outside air is more humid than the inside air, so the air conditioning does better.
Can I walk on it before it is dry?
Yes, with clean dry feet or shoe covers. Avoid moving furniture back or walking in from outside until it is fully dry.
Why is dry time even important?
Because carpet that stays damp too long can develop odor, and because damp carpet picks up soil from feet immediately. Faster drying is a better result, not just a convenience.
Does orbital agitation actually help with this?
Yes. Working solution into the pile mechanically means less water achieves the same clean, so there is less to remove afterward.
